Running AIFILES from Icon in Appraise-It 3.2

If you are running Appraise-It and have a system crash, shut down windows improperly, or Appraise-It crashes, temporary files or recovered files are frequently left behind in Appraise-It’s temporary folder (TRAPRIV).  Such crashes can also corrupt auxiliary files in Appraise-It’s TRA directory.  These files can cause various errors, slow down your system, and impede Appraise-It’s performance. Running AIFILES will clean out these problem files.  It also helps speed up Appraise-It if you close it every hour.

To Run AIFILES

1.      Save your work.

2.      Close Appraise-It.

3.      Run AIFILES by double clicking on the icon you will create below. (WARNING!  Be certain Appraise-It is closed on the computer before running AIFILES.  It is not necessary to have Appraise-It closed on each workstation, just on the workstation where you are running AIFILES.)

3. Also, would also be a good practice to hit ctrl+S (the short cut for File – Save) every few minutes as you work.  One reason for doing so is because AIFILES will delete recovered files anyway so you may wish to turn off AutoSave in Appraise-It.  Another reason for doing so, is that File – Save is a genuine save.  AutoSave and the recovered files it produces frequently causes problems in any Windows program, and it is not as reliable as a genuine save. This is the reason AIFILES was designed to deleted recovered files.  To turn off AutoSave:

i)                    In Appraise-It

ii)                   Click Options – Auto-Save

(1)   Set it to 0.

(2)   Click OK
